As the deadline for submitting films at the International Section of the 39th Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) passed, it has been clear that 131 countries will compete at the film event.

A total of 5,012 films will vie at the festival, which will be held September 19 to 24.

The interested filmmakers could submit their films from March 15 to July 1. The lineup of this section has yet to be announced in early September.

France was the first country in terms of the number of the submitted films (572), followed by Spain (401), India (346), China (231), the U.S. (221), Brazil (213), Germany (191), Italy (188), Russia (162), Turkey (149), Canada (101) and Mexico (86).

Among the submitted films are 2,925 fiction films, 804 documentaries, 689 animations, 594 experimental films.

Organized by Iranian Youth Cinema Society, the festival directors have previously announced that Iranian filmmakers are permitted to submit their products only at the National Section of the event.

The 39th edition of the festival will be supervised by Mehdi Azarpendar.
