Iranian Minister of Culture Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili on Thursday proposed the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization pursue a sisterhood plan between border cities which he believed could give a boost to cultural and social relations.

His message was read out by Ahmad Pakatchi, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCO.

The Iranian minister also hailed a “wise decision” by UNESCO to name the years between 2013 and 2022 as the “International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures”.

He also called for measures to be taken to protect the families in the face of threats from social media.
