The film is the UK’s entry to the international feature category at the 2023 Oscars.

The film has already received the Best Audience Award at the 75th Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland.

UK Oscar submission ‘Winners’ also received two nominations for the upcoming British Independent Film Awards, with prizes to be handed out on December 4.

The film was shot in Iran with the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Iranian actors including Reza Naji, Shahrzad Kamalzadeh, Hossein Abedini, Mahmoud Ja’fari, Ezzatollah Ramezanifar and Asghar Semsarzadeh are in the cast of the film.

Produced by Scot Paul Welsh and Scottish Uzbek Nadira Murray, the movie is set in a deprived area of a small Iranian town, where children work to support their families.

Nine-year-old Yahya is one of the children in town. One day, Yahya and his friend, Leila, strike literal gold by finding an unclaimed Oscar statue, the curious item leading the boy into an adventure-filled journey, Screen Scotland wrote.
