• TEHRAN.(HONARONLINE) – The Elche International Independent Film Festival has picked one fiction and six animations from Iran to screen during its 2019 edition, which opened in the Spanish city on Friday, the organizers announced.

  • TEHRAN.(HONARONLINE) – Iranian director Reza Farahmand’s documentary Copper Notes of a Dream will be screened in the 30th edition of the Semaine de la critique (Critic’s Week), an independent section organized by the Swiss Association of Film Journalists in cooperation the Locarno Film Festival.

  • The Mellat Cineplex hosted the opening ceremony of the 7th Shahr International Film Festival on Wednesday. The Festival will run until 22 July. Shahr International Film Festival, as Iran's most important cinematic event of urban management in setting and promotion of appropriate urban and industrial life patterns, is organized each year by the Urban Image Institute, the Artistic and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality. Shahr Film Festival aims at identifying creative and innovative cinematic works of urban life and creating a platform for exchanging of ideas and experiences among world cities.

  • A 500-square meter storehouse went on fire in Tehran's historic square of Hassanabad on Wednesday night. The fire spread to other areas but it was put out by the fire brigade. Hasanabad is an historical area within the Monirieh district of the Iranian capital. The area was originally developed during the reign of the Qajar Dynasty (1789-1925). Hasanabad Square was built by the order of Mirza Yusef Ashtiani, the vizier of Naser ed Din Shah, and was named after his son, Mirza Hasan Ashtiani, who then became the Prime Minister of Iran for a period. The surrounding buildings of Hasanabad Square were designed by Iranian-Armenian architect Qelich Baqelian, with the structural engineering provided by fellow Iranian-Armenian architect Leon Tadosian. The square is surrounded by four identical buildings, each covering one corner of the square. After the 1979 Revolution, the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization made efforts in order to re-construct the damaged portions of the buildings. As part of the reconstruction, two additional blue glassy modern floors owned by the National Bank of Iran were added onto the old structure of one of the four buildings.

  • A ceremony was held at the Iranian House of Cinema on Wednesday evening to commemorate Iranian prominent actor Ferdous Kaviani. Veteran Actor who is famous for his role in the TV series The Couples, and movies like The Tenants (1986), and The Lady (1999), is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Due to his illness, Kaviani could not attend the ceremony and talked to the audience through a video message. “I do not feel well. I have not been working for years due to my current condition. I am very thankful to you dear ones who have been asking about my health. You give me energy and happiness,” he said. Actor’s daughter Armita received a plague of honor of the Association of Iranian Actors from actress Fatemeh Motamed-Arya on behalf of her father during the ceremony.
