The annual International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. “Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences, and to contribute to building a culture of peace, which is at the heart of UNESCO’s mission,” the director and representative of UNESCO’s Tehran office, Esther Kuisch Laroche said in a speech at Azadi Tower on Sept. 20.

She underscored the role of education, sciences, culture and arts as important instruments for bringing people closer together and building a culture of peace and stressed that music and the arts have a unique way of transcending boundaries and connecting people around the world.
