France (572) and Spain (401) were the first and second countries in terms of the number of submitted films, followed by India (346), China (231), the U.S. (221), Brazil (213), Germany (191), Italy (188), Russia (162), Turkey (149), Canada (101) and Mexico (86), Borna News Agency reported.

Among 5,012 submitted films are 2,925 fiction films, 689 animations, 804 documentaries, 594 experimental films, from 131 countries.

Organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, the festival directors previously announced that Iranian filmmakers are permitted to submit their products only for the National Section of the event.

The festival is one of the oldest short film festivals, not only in Iran but in the region. The festival has been hosting internationally well-known festival directors and cineastes from all over the world.

The Iranian festival is one of the 63 Academy Awards-qualifying festivals.

The 39th edition of the event is slated to be held from October 19 to 24 under the supervision of Mehdi Azarpendar.
