Spain's Ambassador to Tehran Angel Losada Fernandez said that strategic castles throughout the European country demonstrate the impact of the architecture of Iranian caravanserais.

The ambassador made the remarks in the opening ceremony of the 5th Week of Spanish Architecture in Tehran on Thursday, which was held at the Iranian Artists Forum.

Fernandez noted that the event has been held in cooperation with Shahid Beheshti University and Polytechnic University of Madrid for several years, adding that artworks of two renowned Spanish architects named Francisco Mangado and Estanislao Roca are being displayed in the exhibition.

The ambassador noted that participating in such events to find more commonalities and amicable ties between Iran and Spain is of great importance and joy for him.

Pointing to the impact of Iranian architecture in Span, he argued that Iranian gardens, castles and domes have inspired Spain’s architecture. However, Spanish structural design has also affected the Iranian style.

The book, ‘400 Years of Iran-Spain Relations,’ shows that an envoy had been sent to Iran at the time of Abbas the Great, the 5th Safavid king of Iran, who traveled throughout the country and illustrated Iranian architecture in his own book, Fernandez said, adding that Spain has tried to get acquainted with Iran, especially through cultural elements.

Roca, for his part, addressed the audience, saying that architecture can help bring together nations and cultures.

As the deputy president of Catalonia University, he praised Iranian students for their talents in architecture.

Mangado said that architecture is capable of changing a society and improve people’s lives.

At the end of the opening ceremony, the organizers opened an exhibition of architectural artworks in the 5th Week of Spanish Architecture, which opened on June 9 and will run through June 13.

Fifty seven photos of the two prominent Spanish architects are being displayed at Paiz Gallery, including 25 artworks of Estanislao Roca and 32 artworks of Francisco Mangado.

Both Mangado and Roca are two leading architects in Spain, who have implemented several projects in different countries around the world.
