Amir Reza Koohestani will stage "Tannhäuser" opera by German composer Richard Wagner in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany.

The renowned Iranian theater screenwriter and director begins practicing on his new works in Germany on March 6.

A cast of foreign actors will perform the opera in five performances, two of which will take place at the Darmstadt State Theater on April 22 and 30, Tehran Times reported.

About hundred cast, Choir ensemble and orchestra will be gone to stage during the opera. Mitra Najmabadi is a stage designer and Will Humburg will collaborate with the troupe as a musical director.

Three more performances have also been organized on May 14 and 25 and June 15.

Last year, Karsten Wiegand director of Staatstheater Darmstadt (Darmstadt State Theatre) invited Koohestani to work with him. And now the performances have been arranged with Karsten Wiegand cooperation.  This time Koohestani will perform "Tannhäuser" as a new experience.

"Tannhäuser" is a three acts, music and text opera in 1845 by Richard Wagner by two German legends : Tannhäuser, the legendary medieval German Minnesänger and poet, and the tale of the Wartburg Song Contest.

The story centers on the struggle between sacred and love.

Wilhelm Richard Wagner was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is primarily known for his operas.

"Tannhäuser" opera remains a staple of major opera house repertoire in the 21st century.
