VGIK International Student Festival is one of the oldest student film showcases, held since 1961 by the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. The institute was founded in 1919 by the film director Vladimir Gardin as the Moscow Film School and is the oldest film school in the world. Film directors taught at the institute include Lev Kuleshov, Sergei Eisenstein, Mikhail Romm, and Vsevolod Pudovkin. Alums include Sergei Bondarchuk, Elem Klimov, Sergei Parajanov, Alexander Sokurov, and Andrei Tarkovsky. Since 1986, the school has been named after the film director and actor Sergei Gerasimov.

The festival's main goal is the recognition and encouragement of young talents. Over the years, the VGIK Festival winners have become iconic figures in world cinema: Andrei Konchalovsky, Andrei Tarkovsky, Vasily Shukshin, Nikita Mikhalkov, Vadim Abdrashitov, Pyotr Buslov, Boris Akopov, Alexander Khant, and others. In the 42nd VGIK international competitive section, 68 film works by students from 38 countries are presented to the jury and the audience. Katvoman by Hadi Sheibani is the only nominee of the Iranian Youth Cinema Society among its competitors.

The 42nd VGIK International Student Festival is held on November 14 - 18, 2022.

Exground Filmfest in Wiesbaden is amongst Germany's most important film festivals for international independent productions. Exground Filmfest is an important meeting place for journalists, specialized visitors, and guests from the film business. Many (debut-) films by now world-wide renowned directors had their German or European premieres in Wiesbaden, such as 9 SOULS by Toshiaki Toyoda, GERRY by Gus Van Sant, and THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA by Tommy Lee Jones. Guests in Wiesbaden included German Film Award winner Oskar Roehler, Oscar winner Les Bernstein, Katja Esson (Oscar nominee), Susan Emshwiller (script writer for POLLOCK), Adam Green with his film debut GEMSTONES CRACKIN', and the New Wave icon Anne Clark.

More than 2000 films were submitted for the 35th edition of the Exground Film Festival, and 150 works from 45 countries have been selected for the competitive sections, including Katvoman, the first short film of Hadi Sheibani.

The 35th Exground Filmfest takes place in Wiesbaden, Germany, from 11 to November 20th, 2022.

Since 2002 Magma festival has allowed its audience to see uncommon, high-quality films that recount real-life stories and great adventures by experimenting with different styles and techniques. In contrast to bigger Italian film festivals, Magma – mostra di cinema breve has always focused on the short film, considering it as a separate art form and a format that allows the experimentation of new styles and the creation of new trends, and the presentation of works from both first-time amateurs and established directors. The festival offers a chance for visibility for high-value works that are often precluded from the main distribution channels.

It aims to build a bridge between the audience and the endless forms of expression of the short format, from genres including documentary, animation, narrative and experimental. Over the past editions, Magma has successfully tried to create and intensify inspiring collaborations with other distinctive international film festivals – such as Encounters Film Festival, Off Plus Camera (Poland), Zagreb Film Festival, Fest Anča (Slovakia), Tirana International Film Festival, Leeds International Film Festival (UK), Glasgow Short Film Festival, Jameson Cinefest International Film Festival Miskolc (Hungary), and In the Palace International Short Film Festival (Bulgaria).

In the 2022 edition of the Magma International Short Film Festival, 24 films from 15 countries compete for the Lorenzo Vecchio Award. The festival takes place from November 14th to 19th, 2022, in Acireale, Italy, and after that, all films will be screened online on MYmovies.it platform for one week.
