Iran’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili said that Iran will promote its cultural diplomacy by actively participating in the UNESCO-MONDIACULT 2022 World Conference in Mexico City.

Pointing to the recent meeting of Iran’s Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei with members of the cabinet, Esmaeili said that the Leader in this meeting called the cultural approach of the government as a forte, urging serious participation in all cultural activities.

On the preparation for Arbaeen programs, he said that various departments and organizations have been equipped for delivering appropriate services to pilgrims at all Iran-Iraq cross borders.

Arbaeen programs are held to mark the 40th day (this year falling on September 17) after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) (third Imam of Shia Muslims) in the Iraqi city of Karbala.

Referring to the report by Iran’s Ambassador to UNESCO Ahmad Pakatchi, Esmaeili said, “The Culture Ministry is paying special attention to strengthening cultural programs in UNESCO and highlights cultural diplomacy by dispatching cultural attachés to other countries.”

The Culture Ministry has adopted a new policy in the international fields and has taken a completely transformational approach, he highlighted.

Pakatchi added that Iran’s participation in UNESCO has increased since Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raesi took office.

“An important conference is slated to be held in Mexico, the topic of which is cultural policymaking for the countries of the world in the future, and thus the active presence of Iran in this conference is of great importance,” the official noted.

Iran has always played an important role in terms of exporting culture to neighboring countries, he concluded, noting that the government has put the subject on its agenda.
