Hashem Mirzakhani added that 300 more cinema halls are under construction, among which 80 halls are ready for launching, or are in the final stages of preparation, adding that the Iranian government strongly supports cinema infrastructure, according to ISNA.

He also talked about the construction of eight new cinemas with 38 halls which are in the final stages of getting prepared.

He added that cinemas’ renovation and turning them into cineplexes are on the institute’s agenda.

Currently, there are 350 cineplexes with 682 theaters in the country, he said, adding that 15 cineplexes with 44 halls are being renovated, which is expected to be completed until the end of the current Iranian year.

The institute is also responsible for equipping the cultural institutes and turning them into cinemas.

On equipping the current cinemas, Mirzakhani said that during the one-year period, 14 halls were equipped with laser-based projection technology.

He noted that since the outbreak of coronavirus in the country, the cinema industry has been largely damaged. However, in the last 12 months, attempts were done and cinemas in the country resumed their activities.

The institute also supported screening of 39 films in the last year, Mirzakhani noted.

Mirzakhani concluded that the institute has financially helped the motion picture industry in provinces of Khorasan Razavi, Qom, Lorestan, Mazandaran, Isfahan, Semnan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kurdestan, Yazd, Golestan, East Azarbaijan, Kerman, Kermanshah, and Hamadan.
