Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili made the statement in the 14th session of the Cooperation Council for Safeguarding Persian Language on Tuesday.

According to the minister, the emphasis on the Persian language does not mean the negation of subcultures, because different cultures together form a rainbow that all come together under the umbrella term of the Persian language.

A number of foreign words entered the Persian language under the pretexts of economic and cultural activities, Esmaeili noted.

All organizations and institutes must make efforts to protect the Persian language, the minister urged.

Head of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, who was also present at the meeting, said that the Persian language in Iran is not a factional issue; whoever wants the existence of the Iranian nation must want the Persian language.

He added that language is the container of culture; the identity of any country depends on its culture.

“Since the beginning of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and during the eight years of the Iraqi-imposed war, Iran’s enemy targeted the destruction of the Persian language,” he concluded.
