In this article, we take a look at the activities that took place last week in different art fields such as  theater, architecture, cinema, culture and literature, visual arts, fashion, and music.

Cinema

-Iranian drama “Lady of the City” was selected as the best narrative feature film at the 13th edition of the Sydney World Film Festival in Australia.

-After garnering dozens of honors at international events for “A Hero”, Asghar Farhadi scored his first domestic award for this acclaimed drama at the 1st Iran Screen Directors Celebration.

-The duration of 21 films in the competition section of Cannes 2022 has been announced, while the film “Leila Brothers” made by Saeed Roustaei from Iran and the film “Torment in the Islands” made by Albert Sara from Spain was named the longest film of this year at 2 hours and 45 minutes (165 minutes).

-Iranian short film “Miss Ronaldo” will be screened in the Kolkata International Film Festival in India.

-Iranian cinema has returned to almost normal after two years of coronation, and cinematographers have agreed to release the films. From the beginning of the year until May 10, 10 new films went on the silver screen and had a screening of 10 million 374 thousand 890 viewers with 102,193 views. Therefore, sales equivalent to 78 billion, 118 million and 568 thousand tomans for Iranian cinema in 1401 have been reached.

-The names of the nominees for the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories for the 14th Iranian Film Critics and Writers Festival announced.

Fashion

-The 5th National Festival of Ethnic Culture in the historical and cultural complex of Qala-e-Falak-e-Aflak hosted a group of artists from all over Iran in various cultural and artistic fields.

-A specialized exhibition of Iranian fashion, clothing and related traditional arts has been set up by the Deputy Minister of Technology of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Institute.

Visual Arts

-Lebanon’s Minister of Culture Abbas Mortada toured the National Museum of Iran on Tuesday.

-A photo exhibition opened at the Iranian Academy of Arts (IAA) on Tuesday depicting those Polish WWII refugees in their odyssey from the former Soviet Union to Iran.

-An art exhibition titled ‘Iran Cultural Days’ is being held in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, until May 15.

-Footprints of Norouz festival held at the ECO Cultural Institute (ECI).

-Last week, Tehran galleries hosted14 new exhibitions in various fields of visual arts.

Theater

-The winners of the Iranian National Pantomime Festival were announced in a ceremony held in Zanjan. The selection committee of the festival included Farzan Dolfani, Hamid Ezzati Kolli, Hamidreza Rostamkhani, and Younes Valipour.

-Hadi Hejazifar was appointed as the secretary of the 19th Tehran-Mubarak International Puppet Festival during a meeting between the Director General of Performing Arts and the Puppet Players Association.

-The show "Death and the Maiden" directed by Alireza Doroshteinejad is going on stage in Khaton Hall.

-Directed by Amin Behrouzi, the play "Hangover", was on stage at the Qashqai Hall of City Theater until Friday, May 13.

Music

-The unveiling ceremony of Homayoun Shajarian's latest album entitled "In Oblivion" was held on May 12 at Vahdat Hall. This album has been released in eight tracks with the voice of Homayoun Shajarian and the lyrics and composition of Fardin Khalatbari.

-A musical entitled "Simorghnameh" went on stage last week at Tehran's Vahdat Hall to inspire the younger generation to care about the environment.

Culture and Literature

-Press conference of Ferdowsi and Persian Language Commemoration Day was held on Wednesday, May11, at Roudaki Foundation.

- A book illustrating cinematic connections between Iran and Japan was introduced in a special meeting at the 33rd Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) on Thursday. 

-French writer Alexandre Dumas’ “Gabriel Lambert” has been published in Persian. Ofoq is the publisher of the novel translated by Mahmud Gudarzi.

-The first in-person edition of the Tehran International Book Fair was inaugurated last week after two years of lockdowns caused by the outbreak of COVID-19. “With Reading, We Feel Healthy” is the motto of the 33rd edition of the book fair, which will be running through May 21 at Imam Khomeini Mosalla.

-Thirty stories submitted to the judging stage of the fifth edition of the "Purple" Literary Award were introduced.

-Iran and Poland signed a document on cultural, sports, scientific, youth and media collaborations.

-Nominees for the National Novel Award and the semi-long story "Epic Story" were announced.

Architecture

-Meeting of Music and the flow of creativity in the city : "A review on the role of urban design in achieving the goals of the creative city of music" was held.

-The call for papers for the third national conference on "Architecture of University Spaces", organized by Razi University, has been published.
