Yasser Ahmadvand added that there had been specialized meetings and evaluations for choosing the guest of honor.

“Qatar was one of the priorities for selecting the special guest of this year’s exhibition due to its cultural and religious commonalities with Iran,” he added.

“Qatari Minister of Youth and Sports Salah bin Ghanem al Ali, president of the Doha International Book Fair, and a group of prominent Qatari writers and publishers will be present in Iran,” he said, adding that the opportunity will be seized and Iranian and Qatari writers and publishers will exchange ideas.

The book fair’s first guest of honor was Afghanistan in 2014 which was followed by Oman, Russia, Italy, Serbia and China, Ahmadvand noted.

The book fair is slated to be held in both physical and online formats from May 11 to 21.
