Acclaimed Iranian kamancheh (spiked fiddle) virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor will perform concerts in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, and Canada.

Kalhor and Turkish musical composer Erdal Erzincan will stage a concert on April 18 in the Belgian city of Ghent, according to ISNA.

The Iranian artist and Kiya Tabassian are slated to have a joint program in Luxembourg on April 20.

On May 28, Kalhor and the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio will stage a concert at France’s Coutances.

In Canada, Kalhor and Tabassian will perform in Vancouver, British Columbia, Montreal and Quebec City on June 3, 4, 5, 11, and 12, respectively.

On June 9 and 10, both artists will perform a program at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.

Kamancheh is Kalhor’s voice. As he plays, he creates whole languages in which to communicate with people from all over the world, from centuries past and far into the future. Throughout his career, Kalhor has worked with the best musicians from across Iran, and studied the folk music of Kurdestan and Khorasan (regions in Iran), allowing all of these voices to permeate his own sound, according to the statement.

The World Music Expo (WOMEX) announced Kalhor as the winner of the WOMEX Artist Award in 2019.
