The film is codirected by Hossein Qassemi-Jami and Afshin Hashemi, who is best known as an actor in the Iranian film industry.

“Two boys on two sides of the country; the northern one has lost his father, the southern one has lost his mother… So both of them are looking forward to a substitution,” reads the movie’s synopsis.

Hashemi has also costarred in the film, alongside Mona Farjad, Yasin Habibpour, Payam Amir-Abdollahian, Mahnoush Sheikhi, Hassan Khaldoun, Ali Bahri, and Aisan Hadad.

‘Sea Boys’ will be in competition for the category’s prize from 17 movies – including Mohammad Salehinejad’s ‘The Cocoon and Butterfly’, ‘Playful’ by Nadereh Torkamani, ‘Asteroid’ by Mehdi Hoseinivand Aalipour, and ‘Yadoo’, directed by Mehdi Jafari, representing Iran.

‘Sea Boys’ has previously participated in cinematic events such as the Shanghai International Film Festival in China and the Cinekid ScreeningClub in the Netherlands.

DIFF will kick off on January 15, 2022, running through January 23.

“DIFF is a bold expression of resistance against the decadence, vulgarity and cheap commercialism that pervades the mainstream Bangladesh film industry,” reads the festival’s official website.
