The event received over 1,600 submissions from 65 countries, said the director of the contest, Masoud Shojaei-Tabatabai.

The Iran Public Libraries Foundation (IPLF) organizes the contest to promote reading and criticize the disregard of books, IRNA reported.

Ukrainian cartoonist Oleksiy Kustovsky, Iranian cartoonist Majid Amini from the northern city of Rasht, and Iranian cartoonist Saman Torabi from the southern city of Ahvaz won the top three awards of the event.

This year’s biennial focused on the theme of “Books and Children,” “Books, Librarians and Library,” “Books and Media” and “Books and the Coronavirus.”

Aristides Esteban Hernandez Guerrero from Cuba, who won prizes in two previous editions of the competition, was a member of this year’s jury.

The jury also included the Brazilian cartoonist Dalcio Machado, who had caused positive reactions from across the world to the biennial.

Aref Niazi and Sajjad Rafiei, from Iran, and Nikola Listes, from Croatia, were the other members of the jury.
