The works of late poets Sohrab Sepehri, Forough Farrokhzad, and Bijan Jalali, as well as Sadeq Rahmani will be read out by the Iraqi poet August 2.

Founded in 1991, the event will host 185 poets and guests from 100 countries. This year’s edition is held online.

The festival will be “a space for meeting and reflection, rooted in the spiritual and cultural tradition that is contained in poetry, about the present time, and the future we wish and want to move forward,” according to the event’s official website.

Known for its drug-trafficking issues in the 80s, the city of Medellin founded the festival in 1991 to offer an alternative to the civil violence.

Karkhi recently published ‘A Night Strewn with Lightning’, in association with Moroccan poet Rachid Ouhti, a translation of poems by late Iranian filmmaker and poet, Abbas Kiarostami, which was unveiled at Cap Spartel Film Festival in Tangier, Morocco.
