The entries include 190 short films and documentaries, 82 feature films, and 40 feature documentaries, IRNA reported.

In the first call for submission, 251 films were submitted to take part in the festival, but after the submission deadline was extended until April 6, the number saw an increase.

April 10 was the deadline for delivering the physical version of the films to the secretariat of the event.

This major film festival canceled the 38th edition over the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival’s president Mohammad-Mehdi Asgarpour said in May, 2020.

The festival was scheduled to be held in April 2020, however, amid growing concerns over the coronavirus during March 2020, the organizers postponed it to a later time in June, which was also canceled.

On Saturday, Asgarpour announced that the festival’s market section will be held virtually, using a world-renowned platform, and the film section will be held physically, with a limited number of guests.

Since its establishment in 1982, the Fajr film festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the festival hosts veteran directors and first-time filmmakers every year.
