Majidi, the director of acclaimed movies such as “Muhammad (S), the Messenger of God”, “Children of Heaven” and “The Color of Paradise”, is the president of the jury of the official competition of the festival.

Majidi’s latest movie “Beyond the Clouds” was produced in India. The film, which is set in the slums of Mumbai, represented India at several international film festivals.

In addition, Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s latest movie “Everybody Knows” was the opening film of the festival.

Starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, the film is about Laura, who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together to her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.

Six more Iranian films are also competing in the various sections of the IFFK.

“Tale of the Sea” by Bahman Farmanara, “The Dark Room” by Ruhollah Hejazi and “The Graveless” by Mostafa Sayyari are competing in the official section of the festival.

“Three Faces” by Jafar Panahi, “Dressage” by Puya Badkubeh and “Rona, Azim’s Mother”, a co-production between Afghanistan and Iran by Jamshid Mahmudi, are on screen in the World Cinema section.

The 23rd edition of the IFFK will be running until December 13.
