The exhibition displaying 250 works by Iranian artists has been organized by the Iranian Illustrators Society to celebrate Iranian Illustration Week, the organizers said during the opening ceremony of the showcase.

They have decided to name the exhibit “We Are Illustrators”.

“We chose this title to introduce the art to people,” Iranian Illustrators Society director Ali Buzari said at the ceremony.

“Many people do not know yet what illustration is and the exhibition will carry the title until people are familiar with it,” he added.

Iranian Children’s Book Council director Nushafarin Ansari also spoke at the event.

“To work as an illustrator, the artist should have detailed information about Iranian history and children’s literature,” she said.

“I don’t know if the Iranian universities pay any regard to children’s literature, but I know an in-depth knowledge of children’s literature is necessary for book illustration,” she noted.

The organizers also honored illustrators Karim Nasr, Ali-Akbar Sadeqi, Leili Haeri Yazdi and Maryam Mahmudi with Aban Awards for their lifetime achievements.

The exhibition will run until November 6.
