“As I Lay Dying” by Mostafa Sayyari will be screened in the Orizzonti Competition, which is dedicated to films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema, the organizers have announced. 

Eighteen other films from across the world will be competing in the section. 

In the Orizzonti Short Films category, “Staircase” by Mohsen Banihashemi will be competing with 13 other movies.

“Brick and Mirror”, UK-based Iranian filmmaker Ebrahim Golestan’s 1964 drama is scheduled to go on screen in the Venezia Classic, a section dedicated to restored classics from world cinema.

Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, the star of the acclaimed Iranian movies “The Blue-Veiled” and “Gilaneh”, is a member of the jury for the Orizzonti Competition.

Iranian filmmakers are frequent visitors to the Venice festival every year. 

Earlier last year, Vahid Jalilvand from Iran won the award for best director for his drama “No Date, No Signature” in the Orizzonti Competition while its star, Navid Mohammadzadeh, was picked as best actor.
