Titled “Qajar,” the exhibit offers 19 paintings, mostly human figures, which Hajizadeh created under the influence of old photos and Qajar-style paintings.

Two of the displayed works feature Naser al-Din Shah Qajar (ruler from 1848 till he was assassinated in 1896) while another is a painting of Ahmad Shah Qajar, last king of the Qajar dynasty.

Opened July 13, the exhibit will run through August 7, Galleryinfo.ir wrote.

Having graduated from the High School of Fine Arts in Tehran in 1967, Hajizadeh, 71, is a pioneering pop art figure in contemporary Iranian art.

After graduation he soon became one of the city’s most sought-after artists, exhibiting widely in Iranian galleries and art institutes through the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Encouraged by his close friend, the political cartoonist Ardeshir Mohassess, Hajizadeh moved away from his early abstract work to develop a visual language based on portraiture.

Mah Art Gllery is located at No. 26, Golestan Boulevard, Africa Avenue.
