Originally published in 2008 by Sterling Publishing Company, headquartered in New York, the book was illustrated by Lucy Corvino.the book has been rendered into Persian by Manouchehr Akbarlou.
Also known as “One Thousand and One Nights” and “Shahrzad’s Tales,” the book is a collection of Middle East and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age (from the 8th to the 14th century).
It was collected over centuries by authors, translators and scholars across Asia and North Africa. The tales trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Mesopotamian, Indian and Egyptian folklore and literature.
Some of the stories are widely recognized in the world, in particular “Aladdin’s Lamp”, “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves” and “The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor”. Tales of One Thousand and One Nights have been translated and published in Persian several times by various translators and publications.
