The festival will help the screenplays be turned into movies, the secretary of the festival, Seyyed Ahmad Miralai, said in a press conference at Tehran’s Art Bureau on Tuesday.

The festival, which is on Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Imam of the Shia Muslims, and the Arbaeen rituals, will open on October 23 in the Iranian city of Mashhad.

A large number of pilgrims head to Karbala during Arbaeen, which marks the end of the 40-day mourning period following the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions on Ashura, the 10th of Muharram when Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions were martyred.

About 200000 pilgrims also walk to Mashhad every year on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Reza (AS) that is ten days after Arbaeen.

Festival’s categories include feature films, documentaries, animations, TV series, screenplays and photos.

The festival will come to an end on October 27 in the Iraqi city of Karbala, which is home to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein(AS).
