An exhibition of Iranian calligraphy and illuminated manuscripts was inaugurated in Ankara Castle Historical Complex and attended by artists and distinguished people involved in cultural activities.

"Spirituality and innovation are outstanding features of the art of calligraphy which are clearly demonstrated in the works displayed in this exhibition," said Iran's Deputy Cultural Attaché in Turkey Reza Azizian, IRNA wrote.

"The continuance of human life will be toilsome and difficult without taking the role of art in life into account," Azizian said.

"The art of calligraphy dates back to the Sassanid Empire and Iranian artists have developed the visual effects of the art by illuminating Qur'anic verses and texts of letters," he said referring to the history of art of illuminating manuscript.
