A collection of prints by Iranian artist Babak Germchi on Ferdowsi’s Persian epic Shahnameh will be showcased in an exhibition at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Cultural Institute (ECI) today to celebrate the national day of the poet.

Germchi has made in-depth studies on many paintings and lithographic works created on the Shahnameh in various historical periods to build up the collection, which is composed of 63 works, the organizers announced in a press release on Sunday.

However, he put his focus on lithographs created by Mirza Al-Akbar, who accurately featured the characters and the stories of the Shahnameh during the nineteenth century.

Germchi, 57, has spent 27 years teaching printmaking in various academic centers. His works have been put on display in many exhibitions in Iran and other countries.

One of his prominent works, which measures 143 square meters, decorates the Milad Tower Revolving Restaurant in Tehran.

The exhibition will run until May 26 at the Diplomatic Gallery of the ECI located on 3 Movahhed Danesh St., off Nilufar St.
