The museum will display 30 calligraphy works by master calligrapher Afshin Abu-Ali from Mahshahr in Khuzestan. It is Abu-Ali’s first solo show in Tehran, Alongside Abu-Ali’s works, “a calligraphy work by (master of Nastaliq script) Abbas Akhavein will be unveiled,” said the museum’s public relations manager Maryam Pouramjad.

On the occasion of the month of Muharram, starting September 11, paintings by renowned coffee house painter Hossein Zeyd-Lotfi, known as Seyyed Arab, will be on view at the museum from September 8-10. Coffee house painting is a popular form of Iranian narrative painting.

The month of Muharram is the period of mourning and commemoration marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).  Imam Hussein and his 72 family members and companions were martyred by the army of Yazid, the Umayyad caliph, in the historic Battle of Karbala (in Iraq) in 680 AD. Seyyed Arab will show 11 paintings on the historic battle at the museum. It is the first time that the paintings will come out of the museum’s treasured collection, Pouramjad said.  Reza Abbasi Museum is located on Shariati Street, south of Seyyed Khandan Bridge.
