“Unfortunately, Iranian galleries are eager to take works by veteran artists to international art fairs rather than works by young artists,” Majid Ahmadi said in a statement published on Wednesday.

“This attitude is in opposition to the intent of international art fairs,” he added and noted that international art fairs have been established to introduce new generations of artist to international art centers.

Farda Gallery is the sole art center from Iran currently showcasing 15 works by five young Iranian artists at ArtAnkara, a major international contemporary art fair that opened in the Turkish capital on Thursday.

Paintings by Nazar Musavinia, Ahmad Tak, Maryam Moqaddam and Kaveh Kavusi, and sculptures by Leila Alikhani are on display at the fair.

“They are young and have a promising future,” Ahmadi said.

The 4th edition of ArtAnkara will run at ATO Congresium until March 18.

The organizers have said that ArtAnkara is a platform to strengthen and develop the art environment and art market of the region and neighboring countries.

Paintings, sculptures, photographs, sets of video and digital art and installation as well as many other forms of artistic expression are on display at the fair.
