Three Tehran-based galleries will represent Iran at the 12th Contemporary Istanbul (CI) 2017, an art fair in Turkey, including artworks from both established and emerging galleries, bestowing a regional and international focus to the dynamic contemporary art scene in Istanbul.

According to the fair website, Shirin Art Gallery, Ab-Anbar and Dastan’s Basement from Iran will participate in the event, presenting Iranian art to the foreign audience from September 14-17.

While Dastan’s Basement has previously attended the fair, the other two galleries are joining the event for the first time. The fair boasts a lineup of more than 70 galleries, including 20 new ones.

Works of four artists will be showcased by Shirin Gallery at the event including Behrang Samadzadegan, Farzan Sadjadi, Iman Safaei and Farnaz Rabieijah.

Shirin Gallery is one of the custodians and promoters of Iranian modern and contemporary art in the world. With branches in Tehran and New York, it is also committed to charity with fundraisers.

It has attended major world art events including Abu Dhabi Art, CONTEXT Art Miami and Art Dubai, and introduced young and veteran Iranian artists to the global audience.

Dastan Gallery will present the works by Sahand Hesamiyan. Established in 2012 in northern Tehran, the gallery is dedicated to exhibiting the artworks of the new generation of emerging artists.

It is also devoted to research and education on Iranian visual art and regularly hosts documentary screenings and book launches.

Established in 2014, Ab-Anbar is an independent gallery in Tehran, committed to discovery of young and talented artists and experimenting new forms of art. Its mission is to help strengthen the position of contemporary art in Iran by means of providing an inclusive environment for the production and exhibition of contemporary art from Iran and other latitudes.

It aims to create a dialogue with the audience, expanding the domain of art in Iran through the production and exhibition of quality work.

This year’s Contemporary Istanbul comprises a special Galleries Section for galleries founded before 2010, the Emerging Galleries Section for galleries founded in the past six years, Solo Shows for booths by a single artist or artist group, and Plugin for galleries and architecture studios dedicated to showcasing new media artworks.
