Works by 257 artists have been selected to go on display, with each artist displaying one work, gallery director Lili Golestan said in a press release published on Saturday.

Like the previous editions, a variety of artworks selected from about 500 interested artists from across the country will be offered for reasonable prices at the exhibit, she said.

Based on the regulations of the exhibit, the items sold will be removed and replaced with new ones created by the same artists.

The silver jubilee event will host various forms of art including painting, sculpture and calligraphy. Gallery director Lili Golestan says the works will be offered at different prices as previous years to suit all possible budgets.

Lili founded Golestan Gallery in 1988 and since then has tried to help make it easy for people to buy art, support new talent and young artists and take strong steps to expand the horizons of art.

On what led to the birth of the exhibit, Lili said, “some years after the gallery was founded, I noticed there are foreign tourists  coming to Iran every summer who want to buy paintings,” but there was no place to present such works. “So I decided to organize a summer exhibit so that those interested can purchase artworks,” she added.

“But since the gallery was closed in summer they used to ring the door bell at my home. After a while, I thought to myself since I am on the way from home to the gallery during summer, why not hold a summer exhibit so that people can buy what they want. It was then that the idea of the exhibit “100 Works, 100 Artists” emerged, starting with exactly 100 artists and 100 works in 1992,” she explained.

“The first exhibit was warmly received and the number of participating artists has increased ever since. As a result, the gallery is filled with artworks from the floor to the ceiling every year,” she remarked.

The exhibit will be running until August 16. The gallery can be found at 34 Kamasai St. in the Darus neighborhood.
