Speaking to the Persian service of MNA on Tuesday, Zahra Sabri said that the play, which brought her the award for best director, also received the award for best design.

“Fortunately, the play was warmly received by theatergoers, critics and participants,” she said.

The festival, which was held from May 30 to June 2, put its focus on plays about the problems facing the modern world.

Based on a work by the illustrious Persian poet Omar Khayyam, “Count to One” is about three soldiers who decide to cease fighting in an unknown land. To express themselves, they begin making sculptures with mud.

About 30 troupes from Japan, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Germany, Italy and several other countries gave performances during the event.

Yase Tamam has previously performed the puppet show at several other international festivals.

Earlier in October 2015, Sabri won an honorable mention at the 10th International Festival of Puppet Theater and Animated Films for Adults in Warsaw for the play.
