Mohsen Hosseini, composer, teacher, and author of some books, wrote the musical notation of this long-lasting work which is composed of several verses of the Holy Qur’an (chapters of Al-Baqarah, Al-Mu'minun, Al-Kahf, and Al-e Imran), which begin with the Word Rabbana.

Hosseini said that “writing this musical notation is only a research activity and I believe that the notation of this well-known work, which was made and performed by one of the great maestros of Iranian music, has very important musical and even social aspects that could be useful for music enthusiasts.”

The prayer read before iftar, the evening meal for breaking the fast during the holy month of Ramadan, was recorded on Iran’s National Radio at a singing class Shajarian held for two of his students.

Hosseini said, “Considering the vocal nature of ‘Rabanna,’ I tried to write the notation with its details as long as it did not become too complicated,” adding that it is better to perform this notation along with the audio version of the work.

‘Rabbana’ was registered on the UN’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2017.
