The opening ceremony was attended by a number of cultural officials, artists and musicians.

Speaking at the ceremony, the director of the festival, Ali Maghazei, said that the musicians who work in this field have a strong bond with their past.

“Folk music is transforming to something new and modern but we try to maintain its pure perfection”, he added.

The ceremony went on with screening a video featuring a selection of concerts performed during the previous editions of the festival.

Ensembles from different regions and cities including Lasht-e Nesha, Astaneh, Minab, Torbat-e Jam and Azarbaijan gave performances during the first day of the event.

This year’s festival, which has put its spotlight on the folk performances from the northern provinces of Gilan, Golestan and Mazandaran, will come to an end on December 4.
