Renowned Iranian musician Hossein Alizadeh had composed the musical piece titled ‘Neynava’ in 1981, which still remains one of his best works and a valuable piece of traditional Iranian music with a religious background, Honaronline reported.

Neynava or Nineveh is the historical name of the city of Karbala in present-day Iraq.

The piece, referring to the Battle of Karbala in which Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his companions were martyred in 680 AD, was composed during the 1980-88 Iraq-imposed war.

For the Saturday concert, it was arranged to be performed with ney (a wind instrument) and western string orchestra.

The concert includes three parts, all conducted by composer Mehdi Vojdani. The combination of western musical instruments such as violin and cello with setar creates a pleasant harmony. As a globally known Iranian musician nominated for a Grammy award, Alizadeh has made numerous recordings with prominent singers, including masters of Persian classical music Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Shahram Nazeri.
