Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili said that the country’s strategy is to expand interaction with various countries.

Cultural diplomacy is one of the most important means of acquaintance between nations, and the promotion of cultural ties between Iran and Portugal will lead to the expansion of economic and political relations, the minister added.

Esmaeili emphasized cooperation between the two countries in the fields of books, music, theater, and cinema, adding that translating the works of prominent writers of the two countries, holding festivals and cultural weeks are other areas of joint cooperation between the two states.

The Portuguese envoy said that the history of ties between the two countries goes back to several centuries ago.

Speaking about the significance of culture in promoting ties, he said, culture builds a strong bridge between states and nations, and promoting it will strengthen economic and political ties.

He also highlighted expansion of ties in the cultural, artistic and literary fields.

Cooperation in the field of cinema through the Farabi Cinema Foundation, translation of literary works of the two countries, holding cultural weeks in Iran and Portugal are among the topics of joint cultural cooperation between the two countries, he noted.
