Barzin Zarghami added the residence in northern Tehran was purchased from a private owner on April 10, 2019 after 19 years of negotiations, borna.news reported.

The owner had abandoned the house for several years. However, the municipality began restoring the building to its former glory and turn it into a cultural place.

The house’s ceiling and attic are under renovation and its columns and yard will be restored, he said.

Great attempts will be made to keep the historical value of the building, adding that restoration of such buildings is done jointly with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.

Known as the father of modern Persian poetry, Nima Yooshij was born Ali Esfandiari. He gained great acclaim for making Iranian verse more accessible and freer in form and subject matter.

Born on November 11, 1897 in Yoosh, a village in Iran’s northern province of Mazandaran, Nima rose to fame because of ushering in a movement in Persian poetry called ‘ ew Poetry’ or ‘Sher-e Nimaei’.

Nima died of pneumonia at his house in Tehran in 1960. This famous poet was laid to rest in Yoosh.
