Roozbahan Publication has an environment-friendly approach.”  He said half of the paper used by his company is produced from bagasse, the fibrous residue left after sugarcane is crushed to extract the juice.

“Pars Paper Company supplies us with paper made from sugarcane,” Kani added. The factory is located near the village of Haft-Tappeh in Omidieh County, Khuzestan Province with an office in Tehran. There are many sugar factories in Khuzestan.

For every 10 tons of crushed sugarcane, a sugar factory produces nearly three tons of bagasse.  “The other half of our paper,” Kani said, “comes from commercial forest plantations.”

He added that such wood production does not have adverse effects on national forests or anywhere else.   “In this production process, a sapling is planted for any tree felled to produce paper.”  “We don’t give customers plastic bags; instead we use paper bags and those whose purchase is over 500,000 rials ($12.5) receive a plant as gift.”
