Salehi, who was nominated by President Hassan Rouhani during his second term, was approved by the Parliament with 242 votes out of 288, on Sunday,  Honaronline reported.

Salehi replaces Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri who had taken office last November. During the past four years Salehi was a cultural deputy at the Culture Ministry and also served as  vice minister to both Salehi-Amiri and his predecessor Ali Jannati (August 2013-October 2016).

Born in Mashhad, Salehi, 53, is a cultural scholar who has worked as a journalist, editor and managing director for some journals in the past. He is a contributor author to the Tafsir Rahnama, a contemporary 20 volume exegesis on Qur’an in Persian, and has been a member of the board of trustees of Qom School of  Theology.
