The film, which is among contenders for the Oscar for best foreign-language film at the Academy Awards, is competing with four other films, including “The Handmaiden” by South Korean director Park Chan-wook, whose film leads the AFA with six nominations, Variety reported on Wednesday.

The film received nominations for best supporting actress, best newcomer, best screenplay, best editing, best costume design and best production design.

“The Wailing” and “The Age of Shadows”, both from South Korea, “Harmonium” from Japan, “Godspeed” from Taiwan, and “I Am Not Madame Bovary” from China were nominated for best film award.

Na Hong-jin for “The Wailing”, Koji Fukada for “Harmonium”, Derek Tsang for “Soul Mate” from China, Feng Xiaogang for “I Am Not Madame Bovary” and Lav Diaz for “The Woman Who Left” from the Philippines are competing for best director award.

Winners will be announced on March 18 during a ceremony that returns to Hong Kong after excursions to Macau in previous years.
