He received the award on the closing day of the event, the organizers announced last Sunday.  

Abbas-Mirzai co-wrote the movie with Ahmad Rafizadeh. It is about Parviz who leaves prison for three days to hold a funeral for his wife, who died tragically in a car accident. He also wants to learn whether his wife has committed suicide.

Yeganeh Rajabi from Iran also was crowned best actress for the portrayal of an Afghan woman in “Golnesa” by Sattar Chamanigol while Andrew Pifko won the award for best actor for his role in “Daddy Issue” by Amara Cash from the U.S.

“Temporary Difficulty” by Russian director Michael Raskhodnikov won the best film award.

“Éphémère, the Inevitable Beauty” by Simone Marcelli from Italy was picked as best documentary, and “Two Balloons” by Italian director Mark C. Smith won the award for best animated film.

The best short film award went to “Magic Alps” co-directed by Andrea Brusa and Marco Scotuzzi from Italy.
