The international event kicked off in the Iranian capital on Tuesday evening with presence of Majid Mola Norouzi, Head of Culture Ministry's Visual Arts Department, as well as Seyed Masoud Shojaei Tabatabaei, Secretary of the Biennial.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Masoud Shojaei Tabatabai, secretary of the 11th Tehran International Cartoon Biennial, said “the Biennial is one of the most important art events in the country. National artists are exposed to a global event which marks a very valuable experience for cartoonists.”

He said that this year the Biennial has been held in three sections including thematic cartoon on topics of safety and security, free cartoon as well as cartoon with the theme of world famous actors, athletes and politicians.

“As many as 498 works of Iranian cartoonists and 73 works of foreign artists have been exhibited in the 11nt edition of the event,” highlighted the official adding “12 foreign cartoonists will make presence in final days of the event and are slated to host a number of workshops.”

Shojaei Tabatabai then announced release of catalog of the 10th and 11th Tehran Cartoon biennials during the closing ceremony of the event to be held on December 15 at Tehran's Contemporary Art Museum.
