Kupal’ had been accepted as the only Asian representative in the 34th edition of Bogota International Film Festival in Colombia. The film managed to win the Golden Pre-Columbian Circle for Best Film which is the main award of the old festival in its closing ceremony on October 28.

This marks the third international award for Kupal which had previously bagged best film awards from Around Festival in Amsterdam and Canada’s Brasov Film Festival.

‘Kupal’ narrates the story of a hunter and taxidermist who goes through an unfortunate incident by trapping himself in his basement with little food and no water, having to survive by using creative and desperate means. The storyline of ‘Kupal’ and the tagline is, 'you can’t be alone in this world!'

In addition, the film is going to compete at the main competition section of the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival in India.

Mollaie, who is both the director and the script writer of ‘Kupal’, has previously produced several successful short films and presented them to national and international film festivals. They include Please ‘Stay Away from the Red’ ‘Line, Minus and Delete’. 

Bogota International Film Festival is one of the most renowned competitive festivals in South America, launched in 1984 and held every October in Bogota, the Capital of Colombia.

This festival has screened valuable films in the international category and so far has awarded 195 films with Golden, Silver and Bronze Pre-Columbian Circle and 23 films with Honorary Diploma.

Bogota International Film Festival is officially recognized by International Federation of Film Producers Association which gives Bogota festival a valid position among international festivals.
